Note: Units can be designed to meet the requirements of other regulatory/certification authorities as required.

Severe(Ocean) Transit:

Leg strength and leg support structure are designed for ABS severe storm criteria of 15 degree single amplitude roll or pitch at a 10 second period. This is with a leg length of 450' - 71/2", legs fully raised, the bottom of the spud tanks level with the bottom of the hull and the locking units installed.

Field Transit:

Leg strength and leg support structure are designed for ABS transit criteria of 6 degree single amplitude roll or pitch at the natural period of the unit. This is with a leg length of 510' - 71/2", legs fully raised, the bottom of the spud tanks level with the bottom of the hull and the locking units not installed.

Advantages of SUPER TRITON - 450D Rig:

SUPER TRITON - 450D is a jack-up drilling unit design that is more efficient, from a physical size and cost versus performance capability standpoint, than existing units in its class. This achievement is the result of utilizing "state of the art" features from the evolution of jack-up design technology, combined with new innovative features that push this design far ahead of its' competitors.

To resist very severe storms while elevated, without requiring costly and excessive elevating unit storm holding capability, the design uses a hull-to-leg load transfer device that is quick and easy to engage and retract by remote control. This devise cannot become "locked up" because it is designed to interact with only the top faces of the rack teeth so that operating the units elevating jacks, to raise the hull, instantly releases the load on the holding devices so they can be retracted.

The SUPER TRITON - 450D has the largest chord pitch spacing possible for this type unit. This results in lighter legs reducing cost and improving towing characteristics. It also stiffens the legs against lateral deflections. Hence, the deflection induced stresses, commonly referred to as "P-Delta", are minimized.

The hull, cantilever drilling structure, and quarters house are arranged to accommodate drilling with the centerline of the well 70 feet aft of the stern. This is accomplished without the need for removable sections of the cantilever girders. The skid rail bulkheads and cantilever girders are 60 feet apart rather than the usual 50 - 52 foot spacing. This provides more efficient handling of off-centerline well positions and adds width to the engine room, mud pump room, and mud pits.

The hull arrangement is simple and without rakes. The center of buoyancy is always at the center of the three legs providing the ability to enter the water with equalized leg reactions and float level. This maximizes the elevating variables that can be carried when making this transition. The machinery arrangement is such that liquid mud and the bulk storage P-tanks are as far forward as possible to make it easier to counterbalance the cantilevered drilling loads.

The longitudinal and transverse leg spacing and the distance from the centerline of the aft legs to the stern match those of the LeTourneau 116C Design. This enables SUPER TRITON - 450D units to service production platforms that have been previously worked by 116C units by entering the existing spud leg holes left by the 116C units.

The SUPER TRITON - 450D has the capability of elevating the legs, while afloat, so as to raise the spud tanks clear of the water for inspection. It is also capable of making full leg length ocean tows with the legs fully raised such that the bottom of the spud tanks are level with the bottom of the hull. This provides shallow draft and excellent "wet tow" towing speeds. It also enables "dry tows" with a minimum blocking height.
